AIZAWL: Assam Rifles Sector in Mizoram under the aegis of Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) conducted an NGO conclave at Aizawl on 06 October 2022.

The aim of the conclave was to foster greater synergy, enhanced cooperation and unhindered coordination between all the NGOs of the state and Assam Rifles for the greater benefit of the society. The conclave was attended by the office-bearers of the Young Mizo Association (YMA), Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), Mizo Students Union (MSU) & Mizoram HmeichheInsuihkhawm Pawl (MHIP) and Mizoram Football Association (MFA) and they inclined themselves with the overall aim of the conclave. The IG AR (East) appreciated all the NGOs for their excellent work and assured them of full support from the Assam Rifles as "Friends of the North East People".

The representatives of respective NGOs gave their views, thoughts and analysis of various agenda points and various avenues of cooperation between the armed forces and the general public and also emphasized the recent increasing trend of Narcotics smuggling which adversely affects the livelihood of the locals. One of the primary causes of this elevated graph of Narcotics smuggling is the increased number of Myanmar nationals within the state of Mizoram who is being allured by the Drug syndicate and kingpins in the name of 'Easy money. They are vulnerable targets for such illegal activities. The figures of this year speak for themselves wherein 20 Myanmar nationals have been apprehended in various anti-smuggling operations done by Assam Rifles in the Indo Myanmar Border. This grave misutilization of Myanmar nationals requires immediate attention for which NGO support was assured. Another issue of grave concern is the issuance of local's land to Myanmar nationals and the establishment of daily utility shops by Myanmar nationals which in the long run can affect the economy and livelihood of the local populace and the state. Some of the Myanmar nationals were even seen with Voter ID and Aadhaar card which has to be curbed being against the National laws. The society of Mizoram requires to be guided in the right direction for which Major general VK Nambiar, YSM, SM gave them firm assurance of all the abetments that could be extended from Assam Rifles for the bright and enriched future of the people of Mizoram. The subject event culminated with a joint affirmation of NGOs and Assam Rifles with respect to an increased degree of assistance to each other in ensuring the prosperity and growth of the people of Mizoram and the general officer applauded the selfless work by NGOs in extending a helping hand to the Myanmar nationals who are seeking asylum, a press release said.
